Wu-Tang: Chamber Music

Wu-Tang: Chamber Music
Every year since 2007, there have been at least four Wu-Tang "compilation" albums released a year. Chamber Music is the first of such albums for 2009. The album is NOT an official Wu-Tang studio album; instead the album is various Wu-Tang Clan and Killer Bee members collaborating with New York Hip Hop Veterans including Masta Ace, AZ, Cormega, Sean Price, Havoc, M.O.P., Kool G Rap, and Sadat X. All beats on the album are provided by live hip-hop band, The Revelations.
In just 17 tracks, the album also includes an incredible nine interludes most of which feature some sort of spoken word by RZA. The actual tracks of the album are pretty good but the album is hardly a Wu-Tang album; only four of the eight tracks include more than one member of Wu-Tang on it. But I guess if people are desperate for a new Wu-Tang album this is as good as they're gonna get.
The Revelations do a great job with the beats. The music mixes the raw beats Wu-Tang is known for with classic soul music. The album's opening track "Kill Too Hard" which features Inspectah Deck, U-God and Masta Ace sounds so familiar you would swear the music is a sample, but indeed all the music is played live.
The most disappointing part of the album is the lack of actual tracks. The music the album delivers is pretty top notch, although I could live with out the romantic ballad "I Wish You Were Here" with Ghostface Killah and Tre Williams. Chamber Music is not a bad album if you're really itching for Wu-Tang stuff but definitely not a must have.
Rating: 6.7/10
