Snowglobe: No Need To Light A Night Light On A Night Like Tonight Snowglobe honed their chops playing with many Elephant 6 bands. Like most things from Memphis, Snowglobe contains elements of country along with a elements of psychedelic pop and rock. The first single from their fourth release, No Need To Light A Night Light On A Night Like Tonight is "Nothing I Can Do". The track was recently MTV's $5 Cover; I have no concept of what this show is but it seems like a big deal for the band. The track is rooted in acoustic instrumentation but the echoed group vocals at the end of the track is straight out of "Hey Jude". The track is definitely poppy and the stand out track of the EP. The thing that makes Snowglobe a hard band to review is that they have two vocalists. The vocalist who sings "Nothing I Can Do" is a more traditional alt-country vocalist. His voice reminds me a little of Ben Folds and occasionally Jeff Mangum from Neutral Milk Hotel. The second vocalist has a deep voice similar to Calvin Johnson or Kurt Wagner from Lambchop. Unfortunately the second vocalist only sings one song on No Need, "Seems Like". Overall, No Need To Light A Night Light On A Night Like Tonight is a solid album. They cut down the album length to just seven tracks to eliminate all filler which ends up being very successful. Each track brings something different and worthwhile to the table, making No Need a very good album. Rating: 7.5/10 MP3: Snowglobe "Ms June" Buy: iTunes, get the CD on Insound
