MC Frontalot: Final Boss Final Boss is nerdcore pioneer, MC Frontalot's third studio album. MC Frontalot is credited with coining the term nerdcore, which popular rappers mcchris and MC Lars both have adopted as their genre. Frontalot lacks something that mcchris and MC Lars have, he's not as humorous nor is his music as immediately catchy. "Diseases Of Yore" has a chorus sung by Jonathan Coulton. The song almost seems too polished and not like a rap song but like a hokey country song with awkwardly placed raps. "Black Box" is one of the better songs on the album. Its about voting. Although Frontalot does a good job, the guest verse by Ransom blows him out of the water and takes the song to a new level. While for the most part MC Frontalot and Badd Spellah do a good job on production, there is something that is not engaging about Frontalot's rap style. His cadence is more than technically proficient but his lyrics just don't interest me. Rating: 5.8/10 MP3: MC Frontalot feat Ransom "Black Box" Buy: iTunes

I'm starting to think that there's a Frontalot gene, and you either have it or you don't. I'm partial to his staccato flow and odd line breaks, myself. "Black Box" is a good choice, although I'm currently partial to the title song.
I'm not getting "Diseases of Yore" as a country song. Good excuse for another listen, though.
