Immortal Technique: The 3rd World Following a five-year absence since Revolutionary Vol. 2, Immortal Technique finally unveils his third studio album The 3rd World. The album is done in a mixtape style with DJ Green Lantern serving as host. In addition DJ Green Lantern produces four tracks on the album. Technique also teams up with frequent producer Southpaw on several tracks on the album. The most notable producer featured on The 3rd World is Wu-Tang beat maker Bronze Nazareth. Lyrically, Immortal Technique stays in his comfort zone. His angry socio-political lyrics have made him a polarizing figure in music. Although he continues to gain publicity from his strong stances on politics, race, and religion; he refuses to sign with a major label. Songs like "Death March" and "Harlem Renaissance" showcase Immortal Technique's lyrical skills perfectly with their raw stripped down beats. The album sputters when Immortal welcomes guests on the album. "Golpe De Estado" is fully in Spanish and features Temperamento y Veneno and "Stronghold Grip" featuring Poison Pen and Swave Sevah are two of the weakest songs on the album. The strongest song on the album is "Mistakes". Produced by Scram Jones, the track features a Bob Marley sample and has a much more toned down feel from Immortal's usual venomous rap. The lyrical content is still there but the delivery is a little less angry. In the end, was this worth a five year wait? I don't think so. After five years you expect huge things and I feel like this album is on par with Revolutionary Vol 2. It does not exceed expectations. Rating: 7.2/10 MP3: Immortal Technique "Mistake" Buy: iTunes, Insound
