Black Kids: Partie Traumatic After a remarkably successful self-released debut EP, Jacksonville, FL's Black Kids release their debut full-length on Columbia Records. Led by brother and sister team Reggie and Ali Youngblood, Black Kids' danceable indie pop made them blogosphere royalty. Now releasing a debut album is going to lead to some backlash. Although the album debut at number 5 in the UK, already jaded reviews calling the band overhyped are emerging. It's no surprise. Their debut EP, Wizard of Ahhhs contained one amazing song "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You", and three mediocre tracks. Partie Traumatic contain re-recordings of all the songs on Wizard of Ahhhs, along with six brand new tracks. The best of the new tracks seems to be "Look at Me (When I Rock Wichoo)". The song has a Michael Jackson meets The Go! Team feel, with Ali Youngblood having a larger vocal part than on most songs. The re-recordings of Wizard of Ahhhs tracks seem more inspired and higher energy than their original forms. The addition of several good new tracks make Partie Traumatic a more than formidable debut album. Rating: 8.0/10 MP3: Black Kids "I Wanna Be Your Limousine" Buy: iTunes, Insound
