Kid Dakota: A Winner's Shadow

Kid Dakota - A Winner's ShadowKid Dakota: A Winner's Shadow
Minnesota duo, Kid Dakota, have made a home in between beauty and tragedy. Their melodies are undeniably poppy, the music ranges from acoustic folk to full on electric rock.
The power of Kid Dakota lies in lead singer Darren Jackson's voice. The lyrics aren't always great, but Darren's emotive voice glazes over any pitfalls in the words. A great example of this is the opening track "New York System". The lyrics of "New York system is unfriendly/in the winter has bad coffee" would make the poetic type cringe, but when Darren sings it it somehow doesn't sound so ham-handed.
For the most part the album shines. Occassionally the songs get sluggish, almost to the point of being slo-core. Overall, I enjoy the album. It's put together very well.
