Pinback: Autumn of the Seraphs

iconPinback: Autumn of the Seraphs
Autumn of the Seraphs is the fourth full-length release from the San Diego, California duo known as Pinback. The band consists of two multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriters. Armistead Burwell Smith IV's bass playing gives Pinback one of the strongest rhythm sections in all of music.
Autumn is the follow up to 2004's critically acclaimed Summer in Abaddon. On Autumn, Smith and Crow employ Rocket from the Crypt drummer Mario Rubalcaba and No Knife drummer Chris Prescott to expand their deep grooving math rock style.
Otherwise not much has changed since Summer in Abaddon. Pinback is still home recording. The song writing is still solid. Maybe the one difference is a little more hook laden work. Summer in Abaddon spawned the college radio hit "AFK", Autumn seems to have several radio friendly track. "From Nothing to Nowhere", "Barnes", and "Good to Sea" all have the typical Pinback work with extra catchy hooks.
A little fun trivia, the last track on the album is called "Off by 50" because the album is 50 seconds short of 45 minutes.
Rating: 8.5/10
