Rentals: The Last Little Life EP Much like his former band leader Rivers Cuomo, Matt Sharp's sanity is often questioned. He left Weezer in 1998, he quit the Rentals in 1999, and released a disaster of a solo album in 2004. He seemingly regained his sanity, dispelled rumors of him rejoining Weezer and reformed The Rentals in 2005. The Rentals toured in 2006 with former Weezer cover band Ozma, and after an 8 year hiatus they finally release new material. That new material is the Last Little Life EP, a four song smattering of whats been going on with Matt Sharp and company. They're back to their Return of the Rentals style. Moog synthesizers are back in the forefront but they decide to use acoustic guitars instead of the traditional electric. Either way it's nice to hear Sharp back to doing what he does best, writing pop songs. Rating: 7.8/10 MP3: The Rentals "Little Bit of You in Everything"

glad to see someone review this record, even though I'm reading the review so late. Note, however, that Ozma was never a weezer cover band. Also, I think Sharp's solo LP was not a disaster, but rather a haunting psych-folk album (admittedly not as unique or exciting as the Rentals, but you know, not bad). Listen to the songs "Just Like Movie Stars" and/or "Thoughts from a Slow Train" and maybe you'll have a change of heart about the record. I've been looking at Rentals blog attention because of their new year-long multi-media project, Songs About Time. I'm not their label or anything (I swear!), just a fan who thinks they're an underrated band...
