Dujeous: Game 7 Dujeous is a live hip hop group from NYC. The group is comprised of three MCs, a drummer, a guitarist, a bass player, a trumpet player, and a DJ. Don't confuse them with indie hip hop group Gym Class Heroes, Dujeous is true hip hop similar to many Quannum Project artists. Named one of Urb magazine's "Next 100" and featured in The Source magazine's "Unsigned Hype" column, is a lot of hype for a relatively unknown group. A lot of live groups like Crown City Rockers and The Roots rely too heavily on their live instruments and the production lacks the pop of much of modern hip hop. Dujeous being good New York boys have an obvious Wu-Tang Clan influence when it comes to background. How many groups besides Wu have ever made that raw instrumental sound good? Not many, for the most part Dujeous doesn't either. Not to say this mixtape is worthless, when they use their DJ they seem to pop like on remixes of Lily Allen's "Smile" or the White Stripes "Doorbell". But even some tracks like when they sample System of a Down on "Phony People" or sample Johnny Cash on "Cut You Down" you just wonder what exactly they were thinking. I know its only a mixtape but when you have a live band at your disposal you should be able to do more. They should check out the new Pharaohe Monch and get a little funk in their band, it'll work better than the raw sound they're going for now. Not to say that I disagree with Urb and the Source, the boys clearly have talent but they could do better. Rating: 4.1/10 MP3: Lily Allen feat.
